Chapel of N.ª Sr.ª da Saúde

Séc. XVI / Séc. XVIII

The original chapel devoted to S. Sebastião (St. Sebastian) dates back to 1553.
In 1737 the chapel came to be known as the Chapel of S. Sebastião and Soledade.
Between 1797 and 1818, it was demolished and rebuilt a few metres south, closer to the main road towards Barcelos and Braga. Also from this time dates the current building with the simple neoclassical nave and chancel, endowed with a small sacristy and bell tower.
In the exterior, a panel of tiles dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Saúde (Our Lady of Good Health) is displayed on the south side wall, signed by Manuel J. Gonçalves and dated back to 1907.
In 1902 it was renamed and became the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Saúde, and the locals began celebrating the patroness (August 15). A pilgrimage which not only remained to the present day, but also became the main pilgrimage of the city.
The outdoor enclosure has a grove, churchyard and a bandstand.
