Father Sá Pereira

Manuel Martins de Sá Pereira was born on June 18, 1877, in the parish of Gandra, in Esposende.
He was a priest and politician, but became recognised as Mayor of Esposende (1931-1954). He was responsible for some of the great works done in the municipality, such as the distribution of electricity, opening of major roads, urban arrangements, water distribution network in Esposende, elementary education, creation and definition of the Tourism Area of Esposende, amongst others.
He is still considered today, "one of the most distinguished Mayors of all times".
He died on July 18, 1954.
