Henrique Medina

The painter Henrique Medina de Barros was born in Oporto on August 18, 1901.
He early showed a remarkable aesthetic sense, leading him to attend the School of Fine Arts in Oporto, when he was only 10 years old.
Throughout his career he was a painter of landscapes and especially of portraits, which brought him fame and merit internationally. Considered the best Portuguese portrait painter, he was chosen to paint the highest figures of social and political life of the time. His work is represented in numerous collections scattered throughout the world. From an early age, he spent his holidays in his family house in the parish of Marinhas, municipality of Esposende, to which he permanently returned in 1974, where he devoted himself to portraits of rural life.
He died on November 30, 1988.
