The building was the project of Miguel Ventura Terra, commissioned by the benefactor and returned emigrant Valentim Ribeiro. It was inaugurated in 1911 as Theatre Club in order to fill the gap felt at the time with the disappearance of Santo António Theatre, which burned in 1899, where the only large room for shows was completely destroyed. On the 1st floor functioned the Movie Theatre and on the ground floor the recreation room of the local association Assembleia Esposendense, founded in 1879. The last theatre play "Esposende de Relance" was performed in 1955, and shortly after it closed its doors.
It was then acquired in 1989 by the Town Council to be rehabilitated into the Municipal Museum, inaugurated in 1993.
