BREAD FESTIVAL
Campo de São Miguel will, for four days, become the main stage for age-old traditions associated with bread and folk culture.
From 2 to 5 October, the parish of Marinhas will host the 17th edition of the Bread Festival, an event organised by the Parish Council that brings together local associations, evoking the rural traditions of a bygone era marked by the harvest season.
The Bread Festival primarily celebrates the bread-making cycle, where experienced hands recreate the ancestral art of baking bread, as well as delicious meat and sardine cakes. However, the gastronomic offering is much broader, showcasing and allowing visitors to taste some of the very best of traditional Portuguese cuisine.
Once again, the event will feature an “ESlocal Moment”, a fair bringing together a number of local producers from the agri-food and handicraft sectors.
The programme kicks off on the first day with a performance by the band “Siga a Farra”, starting at 10:00 pm. On Saturday, at 9:30 pm, the traditional corn husking and threshing ceremony (“Desfolhada e Malhada”) will take place in the threshing floor, followed by “Youth Night” with DJ Viktour Soul. On Sunday, from 3:30 pm, the Folk Festival will take place, followed later at 8:00 pm by a performance from “Borguinha de Braga”, followed by the “Remember Anos 80” show. On Monday, at 3:00 pm, the musical theatre production “Este ano não há festa” will be presented by Associação RM.
As for opening hours, on Friday the festival opens at 7:00 pm and closes at 1:00 am the following day. On Saturday, it opens at 11:30 am and closes at 2:00 am on Sunday. It then reopens on Sunday at 11:30 am and closes at 11:00 pm. On Monday, which is a national public holiday, it opens at 11:30 am and closes at 4:30 pm.
