EXHIBITION "WEAVING THE REED"

The exhibition "Weaving the Reed" centers on the craftsmanship of reed mats from Forjães, a "know-how" that became the main artisanal industry of this village for much of the 20th century.

This artisanal labor is portrayed through the lens of Juan Pablo Moreiras, a French photographer whose work has illustrated numerous exhibitions and publications, including those of UNESCO World Heritage, as well as features in prestigious international magazines.

Additionally, this exhibition hosts pieces from the "Water Earth Fire" showcase, which are the results of work produced over the last four editions of the academic project "'Design' and Territory" by ESMAD, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.

BIWEEKLY FAIR

The holding of municipal fairs always had a strong tradition in Minho. On the defined calendar day, especially the people who lived in the villages, they soon became accustomed to moving to the fairs, either to market their products or to stock up on products for themselves, the family, the home or their work . Farmers, seamstresses, housewives and marketers have become accustomed to living in this secular space.

This space is organized by sectors, with more than 100 places for non-sedentary retail trade.

The fair is held on Monday, every two weeks and has a free public car park. There is a food and beverage establishment inside the Bus Station and public toilets in the immediate vicinity of the premises, which serve as support for merchants and consumers.

Location:

Next to the Central Bus Station of Esposende

BOOK LAUNCH: "DRAWING AS BORDERLINE ERRANCY"

Drawing, understood as a border-crossing errancy, was the subject of the author's research within the scope of the doctoral thesis presented in 2007 at the University of Vigo, in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Pontevedra.

For around ten years, the philosophy of the limit, as developed by Eugenio Trías, was studied and applied with the aim of providing ontological grounding to the idea that Drawing is traversed ad intra by the tense interplay between conjunctive and disjunctive forces. The draughtsman, being a border subject, elevated to the limits of the world and positioned before the mystery, through critical reason, ultimately opens himself to its shadow — that is, to unreason. He may then, in an indirect and analogical manner, resort to the power of the symbol in order to establish a dialogue — always defective or precarious — with all that transcends the phenomenological events of this world and which, according to the Spanish philosopher, resides in that impenetrable realm he calls the hermetic enclosure (cerco hermético).

Thus, it is a journey demanded by passionate intelligence, wandering between the world and the mystery, between reason and unreason, between being and nothingness. Because whenever a line travels across the paper establishing defined physical boundaries, it simultaneously opens, in an interrogative manner, to the infinity of meanings and senses: it is both conjunctive and disjunctive, it unites and separates by functioning as a hinge between matter and transcendence.

PLAYING IS A SERIOUS MATTER

The event "Brincar é coisa séria!" is the result of a joint organization between the Municipality of Esposende, the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People, and the Psychological and Therapeutic Intervention Center. It is celebrated around the time of International Children's Day (June 1st), with its main objective being the promotion of the fundamental right of children and young people to leisure, recreational, and cultural activities, as outlined in Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, with a particular emphasis on free play, in nature, and within the community.

The event includes a wide range of activities, as outlined in the respective program, within which the highlight is the celebration of the "Festa do Brincar" (Play Party), open to the community.

For this initiative, in addition to the promoting entities, several other local organizations contribute, with particular emphasis on sports, cultural, and recreational associations, educational institutions, Volunteer Firefighters, and security forces.
