The stone pine, once one of the most representative and emblematic forest species in the municipality of Esposende, usually has a single upright trunk from which several branches emerge at the top. This specimen, on the other hand, has multiple stems that emerge just above the base of the plant. This atypical aspect makes its various arms resemble an octopus, an emblematic animal of the Esposende coastline.
Located on a small roundabout between several roads, this tree adds a special touch to this space. Another special feature has to do with an old game that children used to play in the past, ‘climbing trees’. Among the various outdoor games, it was quite common for children to climb a tree, either to pick fruit or simply for the challenge involved. Nowadays play is much more sedentary, but this is a very easy specimen to climb.
